BackStory
SoulStory, as a Memorial or ‘Legacy’ platform, as we have chosen to call it, was born out of Greg Jacobson’s dream to create a safe and secure space online (in cyber cloud, as well as the Heavenly realm) where the biographies, stories, tributes and imagery of one’s lost loved one(s) could be recorded and stored for posterity.
Greg’s vision was spurned out a profound loss for his beloved father, Morris Jacobson, who passed away in 2020, who was once upon a time crowned as Mr Universe, and subsequently became an incredible and humble Ba’al Teshuvah Jew in his later years. Morris was always an incredible father to his 3 boys, Kevin, Barney and Gregory, and a devoted husband to his wife, Jackie, throughout his life.
Greg originally sought to record all his father’s memories on his Facebook page, which was tedious and disjointed, and therefore longed for a proper user-friendly digital platform to create a dynamic and easy-to-use system where he, and others, could record their late relatives stories and house their images, videos and memories long term.
It wasn’t until 2024, that Greg sought to partner with someone who could help him create the platform and business that would transform his dream into reality. He sought the advice of Rabbi Yoni Landau, of the Ohr Somayach Savoy community, who suggested that he partner up with Trevor Donenberg, a graphic and web designer and diligent project manager.
The two started working together and many months later managed to create the envisaged platform and chose to call it ‘SoulStory’, as that was its core business. However, they planned to have many other features incorporated as part of their service offering to their potential customers, such as a Family Legacy Page (for Living relatives) and Family Trees.
Mission & Philosophy
At SoulStory, we believe that every past life has a story worth remembering. SoulStory’s mission is to help individuals and families in the Jewish community preserve the memory, values, and legacy of their past loved ones through a beautifully devoted and meaningful online legacy page.
Whether you’re honoring a recent loss or reconnecting with family history, Soul Story offers a respectful and inspiring space to honour and celebrate those who came before us. In so doing, we hope that the process will be meaningful, informative, cathartic and comforting to the mourner and to those who knew the deceased.
We have made it easy to create various digital legacy pages that endure and are accessible, shareable, and rich with stories, tributes, photos, videos and teachings. In addition to all these, our platform also features educational articles and inspiring content rooted in Jewish traditions, laws, philosophies and values.
SoulStory also seeks to educate and bring awareness about well-known Jewish individuals that have made a huge impact to Jewish community and the world in general, whether through their Torah teachings, community leadership, politics, sports, arts, music, sciences and business arenas, by means of sponsored blog articles of all such heroes and legends.
In addition to our online platform, we aim to publish an annually printed Mourner’s Guide to distributed to shuls and Jewish community centres as well as newsletters in the future. Soul Story is more than a website—it’s a growing archive of remembrance, a bridge across generations, and a home for legacy and legends. May our loved one’s legacies live on and be a blessing.
